Product design is a very important part of the manufacturing process, and it’s the very first opportunity to take an idea and transform it into an accurate plan. Every product start with an idea, but the job of the product designer is to take the concept further.
A brief will outline the aims of the product, while designs will work to meet the requirement in the brief, and there may be many different variations of a particular design. When a design has been chosen and the inventor is happy with it, then the engineering, prototypes and implementation can begin.
Product design is basically the first stage in a very long journey, but it’s just as significant as the other stages, perhaps more so, because if it goes wrong at the first hurdle, then you have no product at all.
