Ensuring you look after your tools

A tradesman’s tools are often their lifeline when it comes to making a living. Without his or hers tools they simply cannot do the job and therefore not earn money. Depending on what trad a person is in they may need to buy some expensive pieces of equipment or tools.

An electrician for example, may need to have several different types of drills and screwdrivers along with multitools and laser levels. Often these types of tools come with a 12 month warranty but some manufacturers allow you to extend these warranties to cover a period up around 3 years. This is well worth doing as should something go wrong which is covered by the warranty you can get the tool repaired or replaced for free.

You often need to register this extended warranty within a certain time frame. You should check this and be sure to register it as soon as possible. As well as registering your warranty, you should photograph and take note of any serial numbers on your tools in case you have them stolen from you. This will allow you to pass these details on to the police in case they happen to recover them as they can then get them back to you.
