Tool storage solutions for the busy contractor

Locating the specific tools that are needed to complete a job can be made more difficult if the tools are not stored in an ordered way. Some contractors at the end of a job simply throw their tools into the van so that they can get to the next job but unfortunately this is a recipe for disaster and will result not only in a messy van but also cause frustration when tools and materials cannot be found.

Storage solutions for tools and materials can easily be found by looking in DIY suppliers or builders’ merchants and can range from toolboxes that fit together in a tower, often on wheels to make moving the load easier, to segmented trays for smaller components such as screws and washers.

A labelling machine is useful so that labels can be printed out and attached to the trays and toolboxes making it a simple task to locate tools and materials when on the job.

Some vans come with built in racking so that toolboxes and trays can be stored on the inside walls of the van meaning that the contents can be seen more readily. A roof rack system is useful to transport ladders, piping and other longer items that will not fit inside the van.
